Wellness

The Well is about wellness.  It’s the concept that coined our name.  (The shorter one people use, in preference to the official one on all our documents: The LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgener and Queer) Community Wellness Centre of Hamilton.)

Being well means being in a state of balance and in good health in physical, psychological, social and spiritual areas of your life.

Being well means having an over‐all feeling of well‐being because of that balance.

Being well includes learning and engaging in new behaviours that are likely to promote this balance and feeling.

Personal concerns, relational concerns (e.g. how you relate to your family, your work and school environment, your loved ones), and collective concerns (e.g. how well others in your community are) are all components of our wellness.

This understanding of wellness is the foundation on which The Well’s volunteer and staff teams work. Members of LGBTQ communities face unique and significant barriers in accessing programs, services and resources that meet their wellness needs. The Well was founded to lead and participate in a community‐wide initiative to mitigate and eliminate those barriers and address those needs.
